VOORHEES, Raymond Burr — Age 65, of Port St. Lucie, FL, formerly of Fenton, died November 9, 2007 at St. Lucie Hospice House, Fort Pierce, FL. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Wednesday, November 14 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 Adelaide St., Fenton. Visitation will be 2-9 PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton with a Vigil Service being held 6 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to the Raymond and Elizabeth Voorhees Scholarship Fund. Mr. Voorhees was born February 24, 1942 in Dowagiac, MI, the son of Burr and Margaret (Crummer) Voorhees. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Western Michigan University and his Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University. He was married to Elizabeth “Betsy” Kontny on August 29, 1970; she preceded him in death June 25, 2000. Mr. Voorhees was a teacher and administrator for Fenton Schools for 35 years. He founded the Fenton Music and Drama Programs, and traveled the world with Music Youth International. Surviving are: two children, Stephen F. Voorhees, Mary and husband Christopher Kneidel; two grandchildren, Maya and Aden Kneidel; brother, Gary Voorhees. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife.
